Deliveries and transport both in and out
As a trading company, it is important to establish control over transport both in and out of the company's own warehouse, as well as deliveries directly to customers. Ewalco got a new transport supplier through a large Frame Agreement signed with the help of TransportRådgivarna.
Ewalco is one of Sweden's leading suppliers of raw materials and ingredients to the food and feed industry. Ewalco also imports many of its raw materials from parts of Asia and Europe.
A few years ago, the company was acquired by Humble Group, a group consisting of nearly 50 companies in FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods).
Transport in all directions
Because Ewalco is a trading company, it involves both buying and selling, with transport both inbound and outbound. Incoming goods, often from other parts of Europe, are received and either sent directly to customers or to the warehouse. From the warehouse, the goods are then delivered further within Sweden.
In the case of food, it is mainly raw materials that are delivered to various food companies, such as ingredients for various mixtures. Charlotte Tidebring, Transport Manager at Ewalco, explains;
Our owners selected Ewalco, among others, to be included in a procurement of new transport companies the group's companies. It all started when we were contacted by TransportRådgivarna and were then given the task of collecting invoices for existing transport costs and other documentation that would be used to calculate the transport situation at the time. It worked incredibly smoothly, and we were even able to give them authorization so that they could contact our carriers to collect the right information.
The invoice documents were ‘washed’ and analysed by TransportRådgivarna to give them a clear picture of the existing processes and costs. Charlotte Tidebring continues:
Along the way, I then received weekly updates from our dedicated Project Manager at TransportRådgivarna so that I could follow where we were going. It was very easy to work with and he was incredibly helpful. Then as it got closer to the tender, TR introduced us to many different carriers, both those we were already working with and new ones. It was a very clear and transparent overview, what our costs were before and what the new ones would be - and how much we could save.
Then it was time to start booking meetings with the selected carriers. Again, the Project Manager at TransportRådgivarna was there to support Ewalco.
It felt safe to have him there, and after the meetings he was a very good support when I needed to call and return on certain issues.
In the end, the procurement resulted in Ewalco's transport being included in a Frame Agreement that Humble Group signed for all its companies, which was a big saving for the group.
Ongoing co-operation with TransportRådgivarna
Everything is going well. A while ago I received an email asking me to collect all the invoices we had received since we switched to the new transport company. After TransportRådgivarna went through them, they discovered that we had actually received some incorrect invoices. They then made sure that the carriers corrected this, so it generated some money back to us
Charlotte Tidebring concludes:
Overall, we have definitely achieved what we had expected. I don't think we would have had such a good agreement as we now have on our domestic transport if it hadn't been for TransportRådgivarna and this Frame Agreement that was signed.
